Blood Donation Awareness
Blood donation is a noble act that saves countless lives and strengthens our community. Raising awareness about the importance of donating blood regularly ensures that patients in need never face a shortage. Equally important is educating youth and the upcoming generations about thalassemia and the need for early pre-checkups to reduce its impact. Well-organized blood banks and dedicated medical staff play a vital role in supporting these life-saving efforts. Together, by promoting blood donation and health awareness, we can create a healthier and more compassionate society.
Young people and students are the pillars of tomorrow. By engaging in blood donation drives, volunteering, and spreading awareness, you help instill the values of compassion, responsibility, and civic duty. Blood donation not only saves lives but also contributes to your own health by stimulating fresh blood production and maintaining a healthy circulatory system.
Who Can Donate Blood?
Donors should be aged 18-55 years with a minimum body weight of 50 kg. Normal pulse, blood pressure, and temperature are required. Donors should not be on strict diets or suffering from illness at the time of donation.
Who Should Avoid Donating Blood?
- Individuals with a history of epilepsy, abnormal bleeding, asthma, or cardiovascular problems.
- Pregnant, lactating, or menstruating women.
- People with contagious diseases such as jaundice, malaria, hepatitis, measles, or syphilis.
- Those who have recently undergone surgery or received a blood transfusion.
- Individuals who have consumed alcohol recently.
Blood Collection and Usage
Only 350–450 ml of blood is collected per donation. This amount is quickly restored by the body within 24 hours, with full restoration of hemoglobin and cells in 5-8 weeks. Blood donations help accident victims, premature babies, surgery patients, anemia and cancer patients, hemophilia patients, and those requiring plasma for massive transfusions.
Remember, your friends, family, and community members may need blood at any time. By donating, you directly save lives and contribute to building a compassionate and healthier society.
